Coaching

You have big dreams and plans.

You’ve built something with your hard work, effort, and skill. You’ve contributed to the people in your life and your community in general.

But some days, progress is just so much harder than it needs to be. And other days, you can’t even remember where you set your mojo.

Maybe things have been sliding sideways for a while. You’d do anything to get out of the rut you know will eventually mean disaster.

Or, perhaps things are going okay. You’re making good progress, you’ve got a good team, and all the metrics are going in the right direction.

But deep down, you know you could do better.

Our society has a mythos of the solitary leader – the lone figure, standing apart doing great things. Singlehandedly leading a crusade against the evils and wrongs of the world, building a business, or creating virtually any great and good thing in this world is often a lonely task.

From the spirit of a small business owner to the organizational philosophy of the CEO of a multinational, the leader fills a special role and exerts an extraordinary impact not only inside the organization, but also on every member of the community their group reaches.

It’s all too common to think of a business or organization as an impersonal machine, a bureaucratic monstrosity, or merely a tool for wealth or prestige – rather than successful because of its leadership team, whom the customer or client rarely or never sees.

And certainly, it could be any of those things.

That Special Magic

From time to time, a local shop will hang a banner something like “Grand Re-opening Under New Management.” That typically happens if the previous management was unpopular, but that banner may mean a business you’d ordinarily never patronize might be worth one more try.

Or perhaps, hypothetically, you had a favorite small chain of coffee shops featuring a board games library. It was always a wonderful experience – every time you stopped in with your friends, you stayed for hours.

But one day, after looking forward all week long to fellowship with your friends, you walked in, but everything seemed all wrong. There weren’t as many games, and every option you tried seemed to be missing a critical piece. Sadly, you learned the long-standing owner of the business (whom you’d never met) had died, and the business was simply not the same.

Though you often fondly recall the memories you made there, you’ll probably never darken that door again.

That is exactly the impact of a great leader.

Everyone knows them, even if they’ve never actually met.

Now, it’s absolutely true that leaders can emerge at every level of an organization. And I don’t want to imply in any way that you can’t lead from the bottom of an organization – or from smaller groups like a family.

Honestly, the opposite is true: bringing a touch of leadership to every life is vital.

And you shouldn’t have to bear the weight of leadership alone.

In the military’s rigid structure, struggling members sometimes receive extremely intense “coaching” from their commanding officers.

Fortune 500 companies spend over two billion dollars a year on coaching for their executives.

Every martial artist studies under a sensei to perfect their art.

Even children’s T-ball teams have coaches.

Let that sink in for just a moment. And ask yourself this question:

Are your life goals less important than a child’s T-ball skills?

Of course not!

But why would you want a hypnotist for that? The answer is simple. Your unconscious mind is an important part of your full being.

And if you don’t align conscious and unconscious minds with your goals, you’ll waste a lot of time and energy – and ultimately end up off course. You may never even reach your destination!

If you suffer from misalignment or an unconscious hang-up crops up during your coaching, having the skills to communicate with the source of the issue will save critical time and frustration.
